How to build a useful equipment shortlist

Start with the welding process and the part, then compare the configurations suppliers actually offer. Use the process categories below to build a brief before you evaluate quotations.

Use filters for what they cover

Current ranges apply to the published arc-welding values for MIG/MAG, TIG and MMA equipment. Laser source power and resistance-welding ratings need their own model context. Input supply is the machine's electrical connection and welding output is a separate value, so keep both in your comparison and check the installation requirements for your site.

Treat blank values as questions

A blank specification means the manufacturer has not published that value. Ask for the model document and its revision. If a page covers a series, confirm which options belong to the exact machine on the quotation.

Compare the same delivered package

List the power source, torch or head, feeder, cooling, fixtures, controls and installation scope for each offer. Note the duty-cycle reference conditions for arc equipment and the operating assumptions for automated systems. A base power source and a complete cell are different purchases, so keep options and exclusions visible when you save products or build a comparison.

Send a representative enquiry

Describe material grades, thicknesses, joint geometry, part variants, available utilities and the production sequence. Include a drawing revision or sample requirement and ask how the supplier would test it. Agree acceptance with the people responsible for your application before any demonstration.
