Dabu Split MIG500 SiC Three-Phase MIG/MMA Welder with External Wire Feeder
Dabu's Split MIG500 SiC is a three-phase 380 V MIG and stick power source with a separate wire feeder, rated 500 A at 60% and 387 A at 100% duty. For a thick-plate station, size the job against the 387 A figure and ask Dabu how far the feeder may travel.

The Split MIG500 SiC in Dabu's catalogue
This is Dabu's heavy-current machine for thick plate. The power source takes a 380 V, three-phase, 50/60 Hz supply (±15%) and drives an external wire feeder. It welds MIG from 30 to 500 A and MMA from 20 to 500 A. Dabu rates it at 500 A on a 60% duty cycle and 387 A at 100%.
On the supply side, the page lists a maximum input current of 36 A for MIG and 37 A for MMA, with effective currents of 28 A and 29 A. MIG work is listed with carbon-steel solid wire from 0.8 to 1.6 mm, and stick work with electrodes from 1.6 to 5.0 mm. Open-circuit voltage is 75 V. The main unit carries an IP21S rating and measures 50 × 26 × 44 cm. Dabu credits a silicon carbide inverter design for the machine's performance.
[1]Which current figure to plan around
Buying guidance
Dabu gives two points on the same curve. At 500 A the machine is rated for 60% of the cycle; at 387 A it is rated to weld without a break. If your welders run long passes on heavy sections, plan the station around 387 A. If the day is broken up by fitting, turning the part and inspection, the 60% figure may describe your pattern better.
The page leaves out the ambient temperature and the test standard behind both figures. Rival datasheets often quote 40°C and a ten-minute period, so ask Dabu which conditions apply before you set this machine beside a rival. Remember that the torch, the earth cable and the feeder carry the same current. A 387 A continuous power source paired with a lighter torch will be limited by the torch. Ask for the duty rating of each part in the quoted set.
[1]Plan the reach of the separate feeder
Buying guidance
A split machine earns its place when the work is too big to bring to the welder. Large frames, vessels and machine bases are typical cases. Sketch the floor area, mark where the power source will sit, where the feeder has to go and which welds can only be reached from one side. That sketch tells the supplier more than a request for a long cable.
Dabu describes the machine as suited to long-distance work. The page gives no maximum interconnection length, cable cross-section or allowed voltage drop. Send your required travel distance and ask Dabu to name the feeder model, reel size, connector system and cable set it will supply for that length, plus any change in output it expects at full reach.
[1]Size the three-phase circuit from the input data
Buying guidance
Give your electrical engineer the input figures Dabu publishes: 380 V three-phase with ±15% tolerance, a maximum draw of 36 A on MIG and 37 A on MMA, and effective currents of 28 A and 29 A. They can then size the breaker, cable, earthing and run length for the real installation. A 380 V outlet on the wall tells you the voltage and little about the load the circuit can carry.
If the station will run from a generator or at the end of a long supply cable, say so in the enquiry. Ask Dabu to state in writing which supply conditions the machine accepts, including how it behaves on a weak generator or if a phase drops out.
[1]Wire, electrodes and torch set-up
Buying guidance
Dabu lists carbon-steel solid wire from 0.8 to 1.6 mm for MIG work. If you weld mild or structural steel, give the wire classification, diameter, reel size, transfer mode and whether the torch should be gas-cooled or water-cooled. Ask whether drive rolls, liner and contact tips for that wire are in the quote.
Aluminium wire, a push-pull gun and a defined shielding-gas procedure are absent from the page. If you need any of them, ask for a written configuration and a test weld before you commit. For stick welding, the machine reaches 500 A and takes electrodes up to 5.0 mm. Name the electrode brand and grade, the position and the joint preparation so Dabu can answer for your joint and not just for a rod diameter.
[1]What the silicon carbide label means for you
Buying guidance
Dabu says the inverter uses silicon carbide parts. The page gives no efficiency figure or measured gain to go with that. If lower power use or less heat matters to your purchase, ask Dabu for the electrical data of the revision you will receive and compare it with other offers on the same terms.
Ask also whether every MIG500 unit in Dabu's range uses the same design, or whether the silicon carbide version is a specific build with its own part numbers. Spare boards and repair parts follow the design, so the answer affects long-term support.
[1]Prove it on your thick-plate joint
Buying guidance
Ask for a demonstration on your own steel grade, thickness, bevel, root gap and welding position. Agree beforehand how the sample will be judged and which procedure and inspection rules apply to the project. Dabu's marketing speaks of deep penetration and heavy workloads. A test on your joint against your acceptance criteria is what turns that into a buying decision.
During the trial, note how long set-up takes, how the feeder moves around the part and what current the operator actually runs. If a supplier quotes a cycle time, check that it includes turning the part, cleaning and any other step your production includes.
[1]Get these answers before signing
Buying guidance
Before the order is placed, ask Dabu to confirm in writing: the ambient temperature and standard behind the 500 A and 387 A ratings, the duty rating of the torch and cables supplied, the feeder model and the longest approved interconnection, and the supply conditions the machine accepts.
Request the manual and parts list for the silicon carbide revision, the installation instructions, the contents of the delivered set and the warranty terms for this model. Agree who supports installation and how the sample-joint result will be accepted.

Buyer questions
Can the Split MIG500 SiC weld at 500 A without stopping?
Dabu rates it at 500 A for a 60% duty cycle and 387 A at 100%. Plan continuous work around 387 A, and ask Dabu for the full duty-cycle chart with its test temperature for the revision you are quoted. [1]
Will it feed aluminium wire?
The page lists carbon-steel solid wire only. For aluminium, ask Dabu for a written set-up covering drive rolls, liner, torch and gas, and request a sample weld before you order. [1]
How far from the power source can the feeder go?
Dabu publishes no maximum interconnection length. Tell Dabu the distance you need and ask which cable set, connectors and output limits apply at that length. [1]
What breaker size does it need?
Dabu lists a maximum input current of 36 A on MIG and 37 A on MMA at 380 V. Pass these figures and the installation manual to your electrician, who should size the circuit for your site. [1]
