Three air-cooled models, one power each
Penta Laser's series table lines up three air-cooled handheld welders. The SWAN HW 500-A is rated 500 W, the 800-A is rated 800 W and the 1200-A is rated 1200 W. Each is a separate model, so the power you buy is fixed by the model you order. All three run at a wavelength of 1080 ±10 nm and offer continuous and pulse output.
Penta describes industrial forced-air cooling, a 220 V 50/60 Hz input, voltage and air-pressure alarms, and thin-sheet work as the main use. The product page also mentions outdoor jobs. The table gives the 500-A its own dimensions and weight, while the 800-A and 1200-A share one entry. The water-cooled SWAN HW family is a different product line from the same maker, with its own models and data.

Buying guidance
Start your enquiry with one model name. Then describe the work: material grades, thickness range, joint preparation, fit-up and the weld result you need. Power alone is a poor guide. A higher rating may still miss your speed or penetration target on a given alloy or joint, so let the trial settle it.
Ask Penta to list the laser source, welding head, control package and accessories that come with the chosen model. A configuration sheet tied to that model name keeps the quote, the trial and the delivery aligned. If you are torn between two powers, ask for samples on both, made on the same joint.
Send real joints for the samples
Buying guidance
Supply drawings or coupons that show the joint type, access, gap and surface finish, plus the variation you see in daily production. Say whether the job needs filler, and ask which wire feeder and consumables are part of the offer. A series description gives no process window for your part, so the settings have to come from trials on your material.
Agree the inspection criteria with your responsible engineer before any samples are made. Record the model, setup, material and operating conditions for each coupon. Appearance, dimensions and joint strength may each need their own check. Penta's remarks on speed, low distortion and clean finish are useful leads. Measure them on your own joints before you rely on them.
What air cooling means on your shop floor
Buying guidance
Air cooling removes the water chiller from the package, which changes what you install. It leaves the trial and acceptance work unchanged. Penta publishes environmental limits for the series. Ask for the manual of your chosen model and compare its limits with your room, airflow, ambient temperature and maintenance access. Ask too how long the machine can weld without pause in those conditions.
Penta compares the series favourably with water-cooled machines on handling and energy use, without naming the machine it compared against. Judge that on your site. Ask for the delivered dimensions, weight, cable layout and how the unit is moved. Keep the 500-A figures apart from the shared 800-A and 1200-A entry. For long continuous runs, weigh the water-cooled SWAN HW family as well, and see the laser welding category for bench and cell machines.
Set up a safe laser work area
Buying guidance
A handheld laser still needs full hazard controls. OSHA's laser overview describes eye and skin exposure risks and points users to hazard assessment and control measures. Use it to frame a competent assessment of your own machine and workplace. It gives general guidance only, so the plan for your site is yours to build.
Ask Penta for the laser classification and the machine instructions for your model. Then assign who handles the controlled area, reflections, bystanders, fume extraction, fire precautions, protective equipment and operator training. Outdoor examples on the product page and the built-in alarms are features, and your site assessment decides where and how the welder may run.
[2]Read the offer line by line
Buying guidance
Ask for a written package list: laser source, welding head, controls, fibre cable, wire feeder where needed, first consumables and the documents shipped with the machine. Ask about spare parts, software access, fault finding and service in your country. A product photo shows one build, so get the components and revision of your unit in writing.
Price optional items apart from the base machine. The table prints 220 V without a phase, so ask Penta for the exact input requirement of the quoted model. Compare commissioning, training and acceptance duties as closely as the hardware when you line up offers.

Buying guidance
Choose sample joints that cover the hard parts of your production, beyond an easy demonstration coupon. Fix the setup, run conditions, inspection sample and records in advance. Log passes and failures separately, with any adjustment or rework. The trial answers one question: does the offered configuration suit your parts.
Get Penta's current price, lead time, stock position and warranty in writing for the named model. At handover, match the delivered model against the quote and trial record, and check the manuals, consumables, maintenance instructions, training and site duties you agreed. Keep the approved settings and sample records. When the joint or the workplace changes, run a fresh assessment and a fresh sample.
Keep the variants separate
Swipe the table sideways to read the quotation checks.
| Item | Published scope | Before accepting the quote |
|---|---|---|
| SWAN HW 500-A | Nominal 500 W, with its own dimension and weight entry in the series table [1] | Ask for the package list, delivered size and weight, and a sample on your joint. |
| SWAN HW 800-A | Nominal 800 W, sharing a dimension and weight entry with the 1200-A [1] | Get its own configuration sheet and trial results, separate from the 1200-A. |
| SWAN HW 1200-A | Nominal 1200 W, sharing a dimension and weight entry with the 800-A [1] | Settle the electrical supply, setup and sample results for this model. |
A useful brief for the supplier
Fill in each item. Ask the supplier to respond against the same specification so two offers can be compared.
- Model: 500-A, 800-A or 1200-A, and the revision offered.
- Joint: material grade, thickness, geometry, fit-up and finish.
- Process: filler, shielding gas, wire feeder, head and consumables.
- Site: room conditions, electrical supply and who leads the laser safety assessment.
- Trial: sample joints, run conditions and inspection criteria.
- Handover: manuals, training, spare consumables, service contact and acceptance steps.
Buyer questions
Is every air-cooled SWAN welder rated 1200 W?
No. The series has three models rated 500, 800 and 1200 W. Name the model you want in the quote and in the trial record. [1]
Can an air-cooled SWAN weld all shift without stopping?
Check the operating limits in the manual for your model, then run your real working pattern in the trial. If long continuous welding matters, compare the water-cooled SWAN HW line too. [1]
