Penta Laser SWAN HW Water-Cooled Handheld Laser Welder, HW1000 to HW3000PRO

Penta Laser's water-cooled SWAN HW handheld welders run from 1000 to 3000 W across five models, HW1000 to HW3000PRO, with a 50 μm fibre and a single- or dual-axis oscillating head. Name one model and ask Penta to state its power, head and chiller setup in writing.

The water-cooled SWAN HW range

Penta Laser publishes one parameter table for its water-cooled handheld welders. It names five models, HW1000, HW1500, HW2000, HW3000 and HW3000PRO, and four power values: 1000, 1500, 2000 and 3000 W. Output can be regulated from 10–100 % of rated power. The fibre core is 50 μm, the cable is longer than 9 m and the head is offered as single-axis or dual-axis oscillating.

The table prints a single equipment size, 1088 × 727 × 1013 mm, for the whole family. A footnote adds that some specifications may change because of machine dimensions. Penta describes fine, smooth welds on various metals, low heat distortion, a narrow heat-affected zone, and says the welds need no post-processing. It gives no electrical input, weight, wavelength or laser class for any model.

How the water-cooled HW differs from the air-cooled SWAN

Buying guidance

Penta sells two handheld lines under the SWAN name. This one is water-cooled, and its model names carry no suffix. The air-cooled SWAN series uses names ending in -A and lower power steps. A quote that just says "SWAN handheld" could mean either.

The water-cooled product page also shows the air-cooled line as a recommended product. That short text describes thin-plate work, a smaller size and weight than water-cooled machines, start-up from -10 °C to 40 °C, air-pressure and voltage alarms, a touchscreen and continuous and pulse modes. Penta makes those statements for the air-cooled line only. Keep them off your HW comparison sheet. Ask the seller to print the full model name and the cooling method on the quotation and to send a photo of the nameplate.

Match each model name to its power

Buying guidance

Five names share four wattages. From the naming, HW3000 and HW3000PRO both look like 3000 W machines. Penta does not tie each name to a power figure, and it does not say what PRO adds. The difference could lie in the head, the controller, the source or the accessory set.

Ask Penta for a sheet per model with rated power, laser source make and type, head type and control features. If the PRO is in your quote, ask for a written list of what separates it from the HW3000. The 10–100 % regulation figure describes the adjustment span against rated power. If you weld thin gauges, ask separately for the lowest output that stays stable on your material.

Plan floor space, power and the chiller

Buying guidance

One cabinet size covers machines from 1000 W to 3000 W, and the footnote warns that some figures move with machine dimensions. Read the table as a summary of the family. The values for your unit come from Penta's sheet for the model you order.

Penta prints no weight, supply voltage, phase, power draw, wavelength or chiller rating. Before you plan floor space, sockets or freight, get the delivered size and weight, the electrical input and a clear answer on the chiller. Is it built into the cabinet or shipped as a separate unit? The product text mentions a water-cooled welding head, so ask which parts the coolant loop serves, which coolant the manual calls for and how often it must be changed.

[1]

Choose the oscillating head and the cable reach

Buying guidance

The table lists a single-axis or dual-axis oscillating head. It does not say which models get which head, or whether you choose. As a general point, a wobble pattern widens the beam path. That can help bridge small gaps and smooth the bead on fillet and butt joints, and a second axis adds more pattern shapes. Show the benefit on your own joints in a trial before paying extra for it.

Penta gives the cable length only as more than 9 m. Measure the reach your welders need around your largest part and put it in the enquiry. Say whether you need a wire feeder. The product page is silent on filler feeding, shielding gas handling and nozzle sets, so ask what comes with the head and which consumables arrive in the first shipment.

Test the weld claims and plan a safe work area

Buying guidance

Penta's remarks on smooth welds, low distortion and no finishing come with no material, thickness or joint type attached. Send your own material and ask for weld samples. Agree in advance what finish and which inspection method will count as a pass.

Handheld fibre laser welding needs a controlled area. Plan for laser-rated eyewear matched to the source wavelength, screens against reflections, fume extraction and trained operators. Penta prints neither wavelength nor laser class, so your safety officer needs both in writing to finish the site assessment. Decide before delivery who supplies the screens, eyewear and extraction, and who trains your first operators.

What Penta should put on paper

Buying guidance

Gather the open points into one written request to Penta. It should cover the exact model name and its rated power, the water-cooled build and chiller layout, and the head type with its wobble patterns. For an HW3000PRO, add the list of differences from the HW3000. Ask for the supply voltage, phase, power draw, delivered weight and size, plus the wavelength, laser class and safety manuals.

Tie the order to sample welds on your own joints and to the exact cable length, feeder and first consumables. When the reply arrives, check that every figure refers to the model you named. Mixed data from the air-cooled line or from another HW model is the most likely slip in this family.

A useful brief for the supplier

Fill in each item. Ask the supplier to respond against the same specification so two offers can be compared.

  1. Model name, rated power and confirmation that the unit is water-cooled
  2. For an HW3000PRO, the differences from the HW3000
  3. Single- or dual-axis oscillating head and the wobble patterns it offers
  4. Chiller layout, coolant type and service interval
  5. Supply voltage, phase, power draw, delivered weight and dimensions
  6. Laser wavelength, laser class and safety manuals
  7. Weld samples on your material, joint type and thickness
  8. Exact cable length, wire feeder and consumables in the first shipment

Buyer questions

Is the SWAN HW the same machine as the air-cooled SWAN?

No. The HW line is water-cooled and its model names have no -A suffix. Check the cooling method and the full model name on each quote before you compare prices across the two lines. [1]

What power does the HW3000PRO have?

Penta gives it no separate value. Five names share four wattages, so ask Penta to state the PRO's rated power and how it differs from the HW3000. [1]

Does the 1088 × 727 × 1013 mm size fit every model?

It is the only size printed, and a footnote says some specifications vary with machine dimensions. Ask for the delivered size and weight of the model you choose. [1]

Is the water chiller included?

Penta states water cooling but not whether the chiller sits inside the cabinet or comes as a separate unit. Ask for the chiller arrangement and coolant type in the offer. [1]
