Verifying welding equipment certificates: what each document proves

How to read CE declarations, CCC, ISO 9001 certificates, standards-drafting records and historical company listings when sourcing welding machines from China.

Each document answers one narrow question

Suppliers often send a folder of logos, scans and screenshots. These items are not interchangeable. A standards-committee record says a company took part in writing a standard. A company-wide list says which schemes the business claims to use. A management-system certificate says an auditor examined how the company runs its processes. A product certificate or declaration of conformity covers named models for a named market. An old government list confirms that a company name existed at a date.

First write down the question you need answered: can this exact machine legally be sold in my market, and who signs that statement? Then sort each document by the question it answers. The examples below come from manufacturer pages in this directory.

Writing a standard is not the same as meeting it

Our Jinfeng Welding and Cutting profile cites a national standards record that lists the company among the organisations that drafted GB/T 46074-2025, a safety standard for thermal cutting machines. Ningbo Longxing has a similar record for GB/T 43322-2023 on air-aspirated welding blowpipes, as the Longxing Welding and Cutting profile notes. Both records show technical engagement in a product field and confirm the company name.

They cannot show that the cutter, torch or regulator you buy was tested against that standard, or against your market's rules. Jinfeng's record also concerns cutting, not its welding lines.

Public self-declarations are a related trap. The Biaoke Laser profile describes a Zhejiang portal entry declaring that an EK3015 laser cutting machine follows GB/T 34380-2017, shown as withdrawn a week after posting. A declaration is the company speaking about itself, and the record can change.

A list of logos is not a file for your model

The Linlong TIG200PGD and TIG250PGD guide records seven scheme names in the company section, from ISO 9001 and CCC to ETL and GS. Each belongs to a different scheme and issuer, and none is tied to these two machines. The Linlong TIGACDC200GD page adds that versions can be customised; if an own-brand variant changes the electrical design, an earlier test report may not describe your unit. The Linlong Welding profile reads the company's certificate claim the same way.

The pattern recurs on the Dabu MIG-180 wire welder page and the Dabu MMA-400 guide. Hangzhou Xuansheng's pipe-fusion catalogue carries a CE statement that still needs documents for the quoted machine.

Ask for the document naming the model code, voltage version and holder, then match it to the plate (see reading welding power source nameplates). The Ningbo Yinzhou Yixin profile adds that names on plate, manual and conformity papers should agree.

CE marking: the manufacturer's own declaration

According to the European Commission, CE marking signals that the manufacturer has assessed a product against EU requirements, compiled a technical file and issued an EU declaration of conformity. The mark does not mean the EU approved the product. Most arc welding power sources fall within the Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU, which covers equipment rated between 50 and 1000 V AC or 75 and 1500 V DC. The Commission states that this directive gives no role to notified bodies and that voluntary certificates are not a recognised way to prove compliance. A test-house certificate can support the technical file, but the legal statement is the manufacturer's signed declaration.

Request the EU declaration of conformity for the model, listing the directives and harmonised standards applied, with the test reports behind it. Electromagnetic compatibility is a separate directive that normally appears on the same declaration.

Automated equipment adds machinery law. The Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC still applies to machinery placed on the EU market before 20 January 2027; the Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 applies from that date. For a cell such as the Penta RW 1510P robot welding platform, ask whether the declaration covers the whole installation or only the robot and source; the Kaierda profile notes that no complete certificate package was published for its robot cells. Enclosure questions are covered in laser welding cells, sources and safety.

CCC: changes taking effect in January 2027

CCC is China's compulsory certification for its domestic market. Under SAMR Announcement 2025 No. 57, DC arc welders, TIG welders, MIG/MAG welders and plasma arc cutters must carry a CCC certificate and mark before leaving the factory, being sold or being imported in China from 1 January 2027. Designated certification bodies began accepting applications on 1 July 2026, and companies were told to complete conversion by 31 December 2026.

For an overseas buyer, a pre-2027 CCC claim for these types may refer to the earlier self-declaration route, so ask which it is. CCC also describes the domestic version and does not replace your own market's route. When comparing TIG equipment or MIG/MAG machines, ask for both documents.

ISO 9001 describes the system, within a stated scope

An ISO 9001 certificate says an accredited certification body audited the company's quality management system at named sites for a stated scope. It is not a product approval. The IAF CertSearch database, run for the International Accreditation Forum, holds accredited management-system certificates and shows status, scope, certified locations, the certification body and the accreditation body behind it.

Check that the legal entity matches your contract, the scope covers manufacturing welding equipment rather than trading, the site is where your machine is built, and the status is current. A certificate absent from the database is not automatically false, but ask the issuing body.

Historical records establish identity, nothing more

Many profiles here cite dated external records. Dabu appears in a Canton Fair joint-exhibitor list. HCSONIC's company name appears in a 2021 high-tech enterprise filing. Chenggong Ultrasonic appears in a 2022 Hangzhou contract-credit publication. Hangzhou Chengyu is named in an administrative evaluation category, and Wintures links to a historical Jiashan award document.

They confirm a company name was real and active at a date. None certifies a machine. File them under identity. When comparing welding equipment quotations, list the conformity documents each supplier will deliver, and tie them to the units used in welding sample trials and acceptance so the certified and accepted configurations match.
